Paul Wood - London is a forest
Paul Wood, author of London's Street Trees, will talk about his new book, London is a Forest published earlier this year. In it, Paul explores
London's urban forest including its geography and history, the animals and plants - especially the trees - found in it and the stories of some of the people who have shaped it. London is a Forest is structured around a series of 'forest trails' taking us from the edgelands to the beating heart of the clamorous 21st century megacity where 8.5 million trees rub shoulders with roughly the same number of people.
Paul is by profession a web designer, but by passion a dendrologist. Paul has been interested in plants since he was 13 when a Pyramidal Orchid (Anacamptis pyramidalis) appeared in his back garden. He says: Everywhere I go I find myself making mental notes about what’s growing and what might be growing, so this blog {see below} is my musings on nature, plants, landscapes and the environment. Paul lives in London and was until 2017 a trustee of the London Wildlife Trust.
Paul's books are available at all good bookstores including Stanfords (7 Mercer Walk just off Long Acre, London, WC2E 9LP)
The Street Tree: blog by Paul and he is active on twitter
@TheStreetTree: Notes, queries and IDs from the urban forest.
