Charlotte, of Tottenham Trees, is highlighting a favourite tree in Haringey every month.

Our #HaringeyFavouriteTrees are:

January
The 1st #sevensisters trees may not have been planted at all. As elms do not seed but sucker, an elm circle can form naturally when a single elm sends out suckers in all directions around it in the arboreal equivalent of a fairy ring.  The original Seven Sisters surrounded a walnut tree.

The ancient field maple in Railway Fields. But just how old is it? Some say 100 years, others, 200. some even believe it to be 250 years old. It's almost certainly the oldest field maple in Haringey.

Looking magnificent in all four seasons the 500-year-old #BruceCastleOak  The oak has been a witness of community and family outdoor fun for centuries and may be old enough to remember Henry VIII visiting Bruce Castle in 1516.

The Stroud Green Almond & the Hornsey Town Hall Sycamore. Two of the Great Trees of London. The heavenly, sweet-scented blossoms of the almond herald the arrival of spring as early as January. Sycamores get a bad press, but this mature one graces its surroundings and deserves its place on the Great Trees of London Map by @TheStreetTree

Have you ever seen a Weeping Beech? Fagus sylvatica Pendula has long pendulous limbs that descend to the ground, obscuring its trunk. A fine example grows in @PrioryParkN8

In Tottenham seven trees were planted in a ring over 400 years ago for reasons lost in time; the Seven Sisters area and the underground station are named after them. The seven trees have been replanted a number of times, always by seven sisters.

The Tottenham Trees logo, shown on the right, is a silhouette of the Bruce Castle Oak with the logo of the Charter for Trees, Woods and People launched in November 2017, on the 800th anniversary of the Royal Charter of the Forest.
